The falafel wrap is one of the classics of Levantine cuisine that you can’t miss. The vegan falafel wrap is better known as Lebanese street food and is the perfect snack for lunch or on the go.

The Ingredients in a Falafel Wrap: A Handful of Classics

What makes the Lebanese street food, the falafel wrap, so special? It’s simple: it’s the perfect blend of different textures and flavors. Because it consists of several classic ingredients. The three main components are Lebanese flatbread, falafel, and tahini sauce. You can always find these traditional dishes as a side dish or as part of a mezze.

For a falafel wrap with classic ingredients, as I know it from Lebanon, you need the following ingredients:

  • Lebanese Flatbread: You can make this thin, springy bread yourself or buy it at an Arabic bakery. You can find the basic recipe here.
  • Falafel: It should be fresh and crispy. Of course, you can also buy them, but please don’t buy the weird ones from the supermarket next door, but rather the frozen ones from an Arabic
  • supermarket. You can find the basic falafel recipe here.
  • Tahini Sauce: It stirs quickly. Use good tahini or make your own. You can find the basic tahini sauce recipe here.
  • Pickled Cucumbers: Lebanese pickled cucumbers are very salty. So use very salty cucumbers, not sweet and sour pickles.
  • Tomatoes: You can use the simple, juicy vine tomatoes.
  • Pink Pickled Turnips: You won’t find these everywhere. You should also buy them at an Arabic supermarket.
  • Parsley: You can add it, including the stems, to the flatbread. This is street food and therefore may be a little thicker.

If you really want to do it all yourself, then you should set aside a few hours. Or even better: organize a culinary get-together with friends, as the preparation of the different components can be easily divided up.

You can also prepare the falafel in the oven or in a hot air fryer to save a few calories. You can also modify the recipe and make street food with beetroot falafel or Egyptian taameya falafel. But first, try the classic original falafel wrap recipe.

I’ll admit it: the vegan falafel wrap and its ingredients require a bit of preparation (unless you buy pre-made falafel). But it’s worth it. And once everything is prepped, you can make the wrap quickly and easily.

Make Your Own Falafel Wrap – How to Make Lebanese Street Food at Home

Do you have all the ingredients ready, or do you need to make a quick trip to the Arabic supermarket? The best thing about this falafel wrap recipe is that you can prepare the individual ingredients in advance.

If you’re making your own falafel, for example, make an extra batch right away because you can freeze the falafel, just like the flatbread. I sometimes freeze store-bought bread, too, because for me, Lebanese flatbread is often a lifesaver in times of hunger.

You can also make the tahini sauce a day in advance because once it’s ready, you can keep it in the refrigerator for about 3 days.

How to Make Vegetarian Falafel Wraps – In 5 Easy Steps

  • Prepare (or buy) the flatbread.
  • Prepare the falafel (or buy it).
  • Prepare the tahini sauce.
  • Dice the tomatoes, cucumber, and pickles.
  • Fill the falafel wrap, roll it up, and enjoy!
  • Once you’ve prepared the flatbread, falafel, and tahini sauce, all you have to do is roll it all up into a wrap. Sounds so easy, right? And it is. Don’t let the preparation discourage you: it’s worth the effort, because fresh, crispy, homemade falafel makes every sandwich that much better.

I hope you enjoy making them and, of course, enjoy! If you have any questions or suggestions, please leave me a comment. If you enjoyed the falafel wrap recipe, please leave a review.
